GahdenSports - Remix

Ahhh yes, back on the blog and it feels so good. Sadly, the same cannot be said of the Boston sports scene right now. The B's and C's both lost last night, in extremely mediocre fashion. The loss dropped the Celtics to 4-6 over their past ten games. It is clear they are missing their MVP Kevin Garnett. Is it possible that they are (Gulp!) beginning to truly show their age? The Bruins are now 12 points back of Buffalo for the Northeast division lead and are looking more and more like a playoff pretender.

Just breaking back into the blog slowly, stay tuned for Patriots offseason coverage and ways you too can stop the AFC Championship from being played.

In the meantime, check out this absolutely filthy goal from the East Coast Hockey League.

Gahden Sports - Celtics Trade Rumors

Woke up this morning to rumors that the Celtics were looking to shop Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo to the Pistons for Rip Hamilton, Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince.

Fortunately, Joe Dumars quickly shot this deal down.

I understand that Ray Allen is not getting any younger and is scheduled to make $18 million next year, but the guy is on a level of clutch only equalled by Reggie Miller and Larry Bird, yeah I said it. WTF are you thinking Danny Ainge?! Obviously, following next season the Celtics will need to evaluate whether or not to keep Allen, who is right now my personal favorite player in the league although he will be..ahem 34...at the beginning of next season. Seriously though, did Ainge watch the first round series with the Bulls? Allen absolutely CARRIED the team. How many times was Allen asked to hit a big shot with the game on the line? 10-15? 20? I cannot remember him not delivering. Allen is a high quality, high character guy who plays the game the right way, despite Doc Rivers's incessant tinkering with his minutes and flow in games. Not to mention is amount of entertainment and excitement value Allen adds during the regular season. (Allen...for three...GAAHHHHT IT!!!)

My advice to Danny Ainge. Tell Doc to give Ray his due, tell Paul to give him the ball when he's open. Let Ray police himself, he knows how. Watch his numbers, I guarantee they'll be at or about All-Star level. The Celtics will be a more dynamic, efficient team and, if everyone stays healthy, will contend for another title. Trading Ray Allen for a player like Rip Hamilton would be trading an immediatly loved Boston player, who fits perfectly into the offense, for a hated rival that fulfills the same functions as Paul Pierce. Brilliant. You traded a young player and agreed to pay Ray in the first place just two years ago, see it through to the end, give Ray his due and negotiate next year based on this year's performance. SHOULDN'T THIS BE OBVIOUS??

With regard to Rondo, who has been noticeably absent from this post. You hafta say one thing about him, the guy has balls. For a second year point guard, you could not ask any more from him. During the first round series with the Bulls, he went right after Derrick Rose, the NBA's Rookie of the Year scoring back and forth with the more athletic rookie and refusing to back down. I can't remember how many triple doubles he had this year. A solid talent, the guy puts it all on the line and has a very special way of making plays that, I believe, makes him unique as a point guard in the NBA. On a lesser team, I feel that next season would be Rondo's statistical coming out party.

Unforuntately, Rondo will need to display the wisdom and maturity that embodies the phrase "Less is more" for the Celtics to reach their full potential. As every Celtic knows, Rondo has a tendency to get carried away. To his credit, the guy is a playmaker and plays at a high speed. While this is a useful and needed asset for the Celtics, Rondo needs to be careful not to let this detract from the abilities of the core of the team, which is still the Big Three. To put it more bluntly, the last shot of the game goes to Ray or Pierce, and KG is the heart of the team, not Rondo. Still, I do not see the value in trading a young player like this, I just do not see how it would make the team any better.

In short, thank you Joe Dumars. Danny Ainge stumbled upon a miracle, please don't fuck this up.

Gahden Sports - Walk off at Fenway!

First and foremost I'd just like to wish everyone out there a Happy day after Father's Day today. Yesterday my own father and I went to the sox game and I have to say it could not have ended better as the sox prevailed 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th inning on a walk-off home-run by Nick Green. The sox were down 2-0 after the first, but Wakefield settled in and gave 6 decent innings of work. The Braves almost plated a run in the ninth off of Papelbon, but he stranded the bases loaded to set up Green's first pitch leadoff jack. Overall I have to say it was a great game.

Afterward my father and I participated in the annual "Stroll in the Park" around Fenway. This was another unique moment as we were able to look into the dugouts, touch the Pesky pole and observe the numerous dents in the monster. A great father's day present and one I hope I can share my my own kids some day.

Gahden Sports - NHL Awards, Sox Beat

Watched bits and pieces of the NHL awards. BIIIIG ups to the Bruins for cleaning house. For those who did not watch, Julien won coach of the year, Timmy took the Vezina and Mr. Chara himself won the coveted Norris trophy, breaking Nick Lidstrom's 3 year run. Unfortunately, winning the awards only served as a painful memory of the opportunity that was lost this year in the playoffs. Still, Bruins fans know that this is a young team and hopefully will be able to learn from this year's playoff experience.

Sox lost in a 2-1 rainout last night, not a huge concern as they are currently the best team in baseball after a 6-1 win Wednesday night. Pedroia was the player of the game, going 3-5 with 3 Rbi's. Ellisbury and Ortiz each had a hit and two walks for the Sox who currently enjoy the best home record in the MLB and the second best record this side of the surprising LA Dogders.

Gahden Sports - Red Sox Interleague Play

Good to see the sox rebound last night with an 8-2 win over the Marlins. Even better to see Papi go 2-3 with 3 ribskis. Ellisbury, Green, Kottaras and Mighty Mouse also grabbed two hits for the winnnahhhhs.

I gotta give props to Tito for this lineup, Pedroia Drew Youk Bay Ortiz Lowell is an extremely powerful 1-6. I also like the attempts to squeeze out some effectiveness out of the bottom of the order with Ellisbury Green and Kottaras. I think ideally you throw Tek Green and Ellisbury as a second leadoff, but I understand the shake-up with Wakefield pitching. I believe this lineup is capable of doing serious damage with everyone healthy. Unfortunately, the downside is that Papi remains a huge catalyst for this offense and, while he remains a force under optimum conditions, his play has become inconsistent and makes this otherwise potent offense fallible.

Solid outing from Wakefield, if there is a better innings eater in all of the MLB I would like to see him. The guy has been a productive Red Sox starter spanning my entire baseball career from age 5 to 20...incredible. The barstool link covers his All-Star prospectus. (From Barstool and Mlb.com)

Wakefield is a hoodrat baller.

Day 2 - The Beginning

First real post today. I figure I'll eventually come up with a planned method of attack for these things and I was also thinking about various types of sections to include in a blog. Current gambling odds on various teams, weekly picks, Simmons feedback, game reactions etc. I'm sure more will come, figured I'd write em down here first so I can remember.

To quote Jim Rome, here's what I'm burning on today.

1) Brett Favre??? Come on man, this is just getting rediculous. As a football fan I have a ton of respect for what he's done on the field in terms of toughness and leadership, as well as his passion for the game, but at this point he is looking like just another mercenary out to collect a paycheck. Where's the loyalty to the Pack? Minnesota??!! How about to football itself, how many times can one man retire before people stop caring? I still also haven't forgiven him or Desmond Howard for ruining the first Boston championship game I ever witnessed.

2) The red-sox streak ended at 5 the other night with an 11-5 loss to the Phils. I'm not a huge fan of interleague play, but it certainly is interesting to turn on the TV and watch Lester (who I love) stare and three straight strikes then calmly walk back to the dugout. More comedy than Chris Rock's last HBO special. Still, two game lead in the division and we're not even at the All-Star break, so there's about 30-40 more relatively meaningless games to be played.

3) Kobe. Kobe. Kobe. I think I'm going to be sick. Honestly, you can't turn on ESPN or hardly any other sports media these days without seeing that disguisting Lakers symbol on the box. I'm big fan of the zen master and certainly believe that he is at least on par with Big Red, but there's something about Kobe's personality that just drives me crazy. I think maybe it's his pretentiousness, or his now "reformed" selfish attitude. Maybe its the history of rape. I don't know. Now I have to listen to all the underhanded comments about how he is better than #23, and I don't mean Lebron. All this could have been avoided if only Garnett could have stayed healthy. Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy????

4) Fantasy football season is 8 weeks away!
